If all the paper money was suddenly withdrawn from circulation, would the value of coins shoot up? Would the barter system come into practice? What other scenarios are possible?

Electronic transactions might work for a while in certain areas of civilization - after all, there's a whole system for keeping records of past transactions, as well as the balance of whatever money an individual put in the custody of, say, a bank. But there might be some debate over how fair it is...

It might also depend on in what way the paper money was "withdrawn". Was it destroyed in a cataclysmic event, like the biggest fire ever, or did the nation backing the money just collapse?If all the paper money was suddenly withdrawn from circulation, would the value of coins shoot up? Would the barter system come into practice? What other scenarios are possible?
