Is a modern world possible without oil?
We already have railroads, trains, and even hovertrains. They don't need asphalt. We'll just need to produce similar cost-efficient technology for local transport - some big airports have it already. [1] Not all plastic is made from oil. Some is made from natural gas, or even from renewable biomass sources as is the case with bioplastic. [2] Will other materials, like glass and composite metals, be able to replace most of plastic being used today? What alternative solution will be found for asphalt? What about alternative fuels?[3][4] Crude oil has many uses besides fuels for powering vehicles for transport. Asphalt is made from oil, and almost all roads in the world use asphalt. Plastic is mainly made from oil, and it become an intrinsic part of our lives - it is everywhere. Not only is plastic present in most home appliances, cars, technology, food and general packaging, but it is also essential in much of medical equipment and products crucial for sustaining human life. Is a modern world possible without oil? Why are there no electric cars?
